August 11, 2008 - Toronto, Ontario - Bison Gold Exploration Inc. ("Bison Gold" or the "Company") (CNQ: BGEI) is pleased to update shareholders on field projects presently underway and plans for 2008. Bison Gold's focus for 2008 is expected to be mainly on the Central Manitoba gold project, located in the Bissett-Rice Lake belt of southeast Manitoba, and the Apex gold project, situated near Snow Lake in west-central Manitoba. Other mineral property acquisitions are under consideration.
Initial drill testing of the 3km long Central Manitoba mine structure commenced in 2006 with interesting gold intersections from the Wentworth Vein and the Tene Deep target (see news releases Sept.14/06 and Oct.2/06). Holes CM-06-7(-45°), -8(-66°) and -9(-78°), drilled in 2006 from a single set-up at the west end of the Wentworth Vein, intersected core widths of 4.47gAu/t over 2.01m, 3.63gAu/t over 4.14m, and 1.84gAu/t over 3.31m, respectively. Bison Gold is pleased to report initial results from follow-up drilling which commenced in late 2007 on the Wentworth Vein. Three drill holes, CM-07-1(-45°), -2(-66°) and -3(-78°), were completed from a single set-up at a location 40m west along strike from the previous 2006 intersections at the west end of the Wentworth Vein. Results from these three holes are summarized below.
| Drill Hole # | Core Interval (m) | Core Width (m) | True Width (m) | Au (g/t) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CM-07-1 | 21.10-21.53 | 0.43 | 0.30 | 7.1 |
| CM-07-2 | 29.38-31.29 | 1.91 | 0.96 | 15.5 |
| CM-07-3 | 52.93-55.72 | 2.79 | 0.98 | 7.0 |
"These intersections extend the Wentworth Vein to the west," stated Consulting Geologist W.C. Hood, "and appear to confirm the observation that better gold grades occur in steep-dipping portions of the Central Manitoba shear-hosted veins. This may provide an important guide to exploring the Central Manitoba structure, both between the zones mined in its 1927-37 production period and at depth below the old workings."
Hole CM-07-4 was drilled to target the Tene Deep zone at a point 100m west of hole CM-06-10 from the 2006 program. Results from this hole are expected to be returned in February. Drilling is scheduled to resume on the Central Manitoba property during mid-February.
Bison Gold also intends to re-examine their 100% owned Apex gold property in the Snow Lake district of Manitoba. The Apex property has been extensively sampled and drilled by several companies since 1920. This work has included 15 drill holes by Fifty Three Syndicate in 1934, 82 drill holes by Tungold Mines Ltd in 1943-46, 4 drill holes by Placer Development in 1980 and 11 drill holes by Nord Resources Ltd in 1981. Within the Apex zone, gold mineralization has been outlined in a flat-lying, sheeted quartz vein system, hosted by granodiorite near its interpreted roof contact with overlying Burntwood turbidite sediments. Variable gold mineralization has been outlined within a zone which is 200m long northeast-southwest, between 100 and 200m in its northwest-southeast direction, and between 1.5 and 12m thick. The mineralized zone is partially outcropping. In 1997, a pre-NI43-101 resource calculation of 109,000 tons @ 0.107 ozAu/ton with a 15.2 foot average true thickness was made for the Apex zone. It should be noted that this resource estimate is historical in nature, has not been verified by Bison Gold's Qualified Person, and should not be relied upon. Bison Gold is presently assembling and analyzing all available data on the Apex property in order to design a drilling program from which a NI43-101 compliant resource might potentially be calculated, and to further explore the Apex property.
"We are pleased with the progress that has been made in understanding and exploring the Central Manitoba property to date, and look forward to advancing the Apex gold property as well," commented Lucas Ewart, CEO of Bison Gold. "We are now well-financed to pursue these projects, and shareholders can look forward to an exciting year in 2008."
The Central Manitoba drilling program was completed under the supervision of William C. Hood, P.Geo., a Qualified Person under NI 43-101. Drill core was sawed, with half sent to SGS Mineral Services in Red Lake for analysis. Gold analysis was done with a 50g fire assay with gravimetric finish. SGS maintains a quality control program with standards, blanks and duplicates. Blank check samples were also inserted regularly. W.C. Hood has reviewed this news release.
